Is there a direct train from Hanoi to Sapa?

No. The railway ends at Lao Cai station, about 40 km from Sapa. Every train here runs Hanoi–Lao Cai overnight, and a shuttle bus, shared minivan or private car covers the last about an hour up the mountain.

What time do the night trains leave Hanoi?

Between 21:30–22:40, from Hanoi Station, 7 Tran Quy Cap Street, arriving at Lao Cai 8–9 hours later. Each listing shows its exact time; arrive about an hour early to exchange your booking for a paper ticket.

How do I get from Lao Cai station to Sapa?

Shuttle buses and shared minivans meet every arriving train; the 40 km climb takes about an hour. To skip the queue, ask us in chat to arrange a private car before you travel.

Does the train include pickup in Hanoi?

Only Victoria Express: free pickup from Old Quarter hotels and Noi Bai Airport. The other trains start at Hanoi Station, so you make your own way there. For free Old Quarter and airport pickup on every service, take the bus or a limousine van.

Should I choose a lower or upper berth?

Lower berths are easier to get in and out of and keep your luggage in reach; upper berths are a little more private. Tell us your preference when you book.

Is the train good for families with children?

Yes. A private cabin (from US$115 per cabin) gives your family the whole compartment, and on several trains young children share a parent's berth for free. In a shared cabin you can book all the berths together.
